We are located in downtown Newtown on State Street in the iconic "Bird-in-Hand", an over 300-year-old colonial home that is the oldest framed building in Pennsylvania still standing. Erected in 1686, the building served as a house initially and was then converted into a local tavern. During the Revolutionary War, the tavern was used to make uniforms for the American troops at Valley Forge. On February 19th, 1778, 40 British sympathizers raided the building. The fighting left some American soldiers dead and others captured, distinguishing it as the only location in Newtown that encountered fighting in the Revolutionary War. After the war, the building reverted back to a tavern before it was repurposed into the first Newtown Post Office in 1800, and then eventually the Library Company in 1818. Over the course of the coming years the building remained despite changing owners and now it is home to our offices! To read more about the history of our new office building, click here
